After some friends joked about me making a dating sim, I decided to draft up a short love-letter to my own imposter syndrome by giving it a physical form with this text adventure.
Technically, this wasn't a difficult project to get off the ground, thanks to the Ren'Py engine. Instead, it provided a space in which I explored narrative writing- namely how mundane yet complex our day-to-day lives can get, along with the little voice in our heads that criticize our every mistake.
"Why didn't you call your mom last night? Who's earned that promotion more than you? What did you spend money on last week instead of rent?"
This project is not yet complete, and I'm not quite sure where I'm taking it. I'd like to have the character ultimately find their confidence, either through career success, relationships (familial, platonic, romantic), or perhaps hobbies. I'm still working on it in my own life, but we'll get there.
